The latest issue of Best Magazine (Winter 2021 n.71) was published last week.
Among the many interesting topics, there was an article dedicated to the opinions of battery industry professionals about whether the approach to the future of the lead acid battery industry should be based on changing peoples’ about lead batteries or promoting technological developments to make them more competitive with respect to Li-ion technology. Our Customer Liaison, Maria Pia DeSimone shared CAM’S point of view, and in particular, she highlighted that:

This point is fundamental: recycling the primary element: lead, the heart of the lead acid battery. This is key to the future of this method of energy accumulation.
As of today, the lead acid battery is truly the only “green” energy accumulator: lead is 100% recyclable, and 95% of the other components, such as plastic and sulfuric acid can be salvaged. This means that the main path to an ecologically sustainable world already exists, and there is a guaranteed industry in place, regulated by international norms, already doing the work.
The second point is that we know the life cycle of lead acid batteries. We’re talking about a century old technology that has been studied and improved in international research centers. There is solid evidence and testing to back it, not guessing games and hypotheses, that differentiate it from newer technologies.
Another strong point is the competitive price, which is in reality too low with respect to other batteries.
